| EU Parliament installs Coordination Group for Lisbon Reform |
The European Parliament has recently established a coordination group for the Lisbon Agenda Reform consisting of representatives from all the parliamentary groups. This group consists of 33 MEPs including MEP Paul RUEBIG, President of SME Global. The SME UNION congratulates Paul RUEBIG for his nomination to this important body of professionals charged with the task of implementing the Lisbon goals!

| Free trade and social conditions |
The European Commission and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have established a partnership to promote actions by which progressive liberalization and free trade can reinforce employment, social and environmental protection. “Trade policy handled properly and multilateral trade liberalization can foster long-term economic growth, combat poverty and raise living and working standards.” said EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson.

| EU-US council to push for freer economy |
|
On Friday, 9 November 2007 the high level delegates attended the first meeting of the Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) in Washington laying down the groundwork for a freer economy. By presenting a common front to the world EU and US will encourage economies such as China to follow suit on regulatory issues. The discussions included convergence in areas such us biofuels, standardization, accounting standards, custom procedures, consumer protection strategies and sovereign wealth funds. |
