Franz Schausberger
Former President Univ. Doz. Dr. Franz Schausberger studied philosophy, pedagogy and history at the University of Salzburg (Dr. phil. 1973). Since 1994 he has been a lecturer at the Institute for Social and Economic History of the University of Linz and habilitated as a University assistant professor for Modern Austrian History at the Institute for History of the University of Salzburg in 1996. In 2007 be became Professor at the Western Hungarian University Sopron.
From 1979 to 1996 Franz Schausberger was member of the regional parliament of Salzburg and from 1979 to 1989 he was Secretary General of the Salzburg Austrian Peoples's Party (Österreichische Volkspartei - ÖVP).
From 1989 to 1996 he was Chairman of the ÖVP Group in the parliament of Salzburg.
From 24 April 1996 to 28 April 2004 he was elected President of Salzburg.
Since 1996, he has been a member of the Committee of the Regions of the EU (CoR), and from 2004 - 2006 he has been President of the CoR - Commission for Constitutional Affairs and European Governance. Since 2006 he has been Vice-President of the EPP group of CoR and political coordinator in CoR-RELEX-Commission. In 2009 he was re-nominated as member of CoR till 2014.
Furthermore, he was Chairman of the supervisory board of Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße AG and of Salzburg AG and is still deputy-chairman of Alpine Deutschland AG.
Franz Schausberger was President of the International Salzburg Association (ISA) from 1996 to 2006.
In 2004 he founded the Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE) and since then he has been president of IRE. |
