| SME AEROSPACE AND DEFENCE MISSION STATEMENT: |
In the new geo-strategic context, the building of the strong European Defense and Security Policy represents a strategic must for European aerospace and defense industry.
During the last five years, the European policy in this field has become one of the most successful issues of the European Union. Some examples of these successes are for example the creation of the European Space Agency (ESA) or more recently the European Defense Agency (EDA) and successful programs such as Airbus, Ariane or Galileo Project need not to be mentioned.
For the incoming years, the political and operational development of the activities of the EDA and ESA will represent a major goal to create the strong foundations of a real and effective European high technologies market. In this context, it becomes important for the relevant industries to strengthen their presence at the European level and to organize themselves in order to ensure efficient developments of their business activities and know how.
The SME’s involved in the Aerospace and Defense industry have strategic interests to assure their positioning and lobbying vis-à-vis the emerging European institutions: Relations between prime contractors and SME’s, access and funding of R&T, knowledge and leveraging of the European rules and procedures, programs are some examples of the fields of interests which should be studied and shared at European level by SME’s.
In order to reply to this challenge, the creation of an Aerospace and Defense SME Union Workshop offers the best opportunity to launch the adequate process assuring the lasting and defendable development of an efficient European SMEs Aerospace and Defense Technological and Industrial Base (SME AEDTIB).
